For more than a century, Family and Children’s Services Niagara, the local Children’s Aid Society,

has provided vital child welfare, family/community support, counselling, foster care and

adoption services to residents in the Niagara Region.

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness, the Manager of Legal Administration is responsible for overseeing, planning, directing and coordinating the activities of a team of staff providing Legal Business Services.


Key Duties:

Oversees all scheduling and departmental assignments of staff ensuring adequate day-to-day coverage, and prepares and implements coverage schedules

Assists Child Protection Workers and Legal Services staff to effect service of legal documents, issuing of documents and the filing of documents with the court and within legal and child protection files.

Provides in-service training to staff in order to standardize service delivery and maintain an appropriate skill level

Identifies training gaps and researches training ideas for legal support staff

Acts as “back up” support to the Manager of Business Administration in their absence.

Prepares monthly statistical reports

Manages recruitment, performance evaluation, coaching, discipline and termination where necessary ensuring accordance to Human Resources policy and within the context of the collective agreement

Oversees staff orientation, learning and development plans and ensures accordance to FACS policy, procedure and guidelines

Provides supervision to all team members and manages in a manner that motivates, guides and directs employees in FACS values, objectives and performance expectations; maintains a work environment that expects fairness, consistency, respect and approachability while promoting staff participation, team work and positive employee relations

Leads regular team meetings to set goals and monitor team performance and engages the team in successful accomplishment of goals

Provides leadership for the operational success of the legal administration team and provides supportive leadership through periods of change

Promotes integration of activities across portfolios and monitors achievement of objectives



Post Secondary diploma in Business Administration or related professional designation

Minimum 2 years experience in a supervisory role required

Additional experience in a legal business setting would be an asset

Excellent knowledge of legal functions and processes

Excellent ability to use MS Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, etc

Excellent ability to think analytically with attention to detail in the presence of frequent interruptions

Solid  planning, time-management, multi-tasking and organizational skills

Solid written, oral communication and interpersonal skills providing meaningful and timely interaction with all levels of staff

Valid G Driver’s License and access to a reliable motor vehicle with appropriate liability insurance required

A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Records Check is required
